Paul Scholes points accusing finger at Manchester United duo Jadon Sancho and Antony for derby day laziness – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has accused wingers Jadon Sancho and Antony of laziness in the derby debacle on Sunday.

Scholes, via his Instagram account, took issue with the two for their horrible showings, especially defensively.

The 47-year-old posted a picture of his former teammates, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham, along with a cryptic caption that will of course be interpreted as targeted shots against Sancho and Antony.

Giggs and Beckham are two of United’s most iconic stars, whose contributions help guarantee the Red Devils

Alongside the picture, Scholes included the caption, “Anyone remember when wingers used to help their full-backs?”

The former midfielder’s opinion is certainly warranted in terms of his criticism of the two forwards.

On multiple occasions, especially in the opening 45 minutes, the two wingers’ reluctance or unwillingness to track back and mark runs left Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia exposed, with large spaces to defend and at times in two versus one situations.

The epitome of their failure to track back resulted in an early booking for Dalot and Malacia who was also shown a yellow card in the first half.

Antony was slightly better in the second half, as evidenced by his amazing stats capped off by a sublime curling goal with his left foot.

Sancho, who predominantly played on the left flank, arguably had one of his worst performances in a United shirt and was substituted -rightly so.

Scholes’ comments should serve to prompt both players and the coaching staff to address such lapses both at the training ground and during games.

United fans will be on the lookout for a much-improved showing in this regard, starting from Thursday’s Europa League clash against Omonia.
