Last June, the Illinois Gaming Board revealed the temporary Hard Rock Casino in Rockford made more than $30 million during its first six months of operations. This translated to tax payments of around $1.8 million, the lion’s share of which goes to the city of Rockford.
According to their agreement, 70% of the tax revenue will go to the city of Rockford while 20% will be given to Winnebago County. Loves Park and Machesney Park will share the remaining 10%. Meanwhile, Rockford will allot $1.5 million annually to the Rockford Promise Northern Illinois University scholarships.
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara says that the scholarship program will help the city attract and retain residents. He hopes that once residents are educated and employed, the crime rate in Rockford will be reduced.

The temporary gambling facility is located at Giovanni’s Restaurant and Convention Center at 610 Bell School Road. The 21,000-square-foot venue cost $8 million to build and features more than 600 slot machines, electronic table games, Rock River Bar & Grill, Midway Bar, and Rock Shop.
To add to its services, Hard Rock International is eyeing to launch a sportsbook at the temporary venue before the end of the year and just in time for the Super Bowl. However, the company is still in the process of securing the necessary permits and approvals from the regulating bodies.
Construction of the permanent Hard Rock Casino Rockford is ongoing and expected to be completed in the next two years. The $310 million casino project is being built at the former Clock Tower Resort at East State Street and I-90. The 65,000 square foot gambling property will have a Hard Rock Cafe, Hard Rock Live concert venue, restaurants, retail stores, and a 250-room hotel. The project has created around 1,000 construction jobs and will provide an estimated 1,200 permanent positions upon its launch.
