Robert Whitaker is a bigger betting favorite in his rebooked bout against Marvin Vettori.

According to the best UFC betting sites, the former UFC middleweight champion is the -225 favorite against Vettori who came back at +188 odds when the betting odds for their UFC Paris on September 3 went live:

The Reaper opened at a shorter price than when he opened during their first booking at UFC 275. Whitaker opened at -200 odds for that bout while Vettori hit the opening betting boards at +160. That fight did not materialize after Whitaker withdrew with three weeks to go before the event due to an undisclosed injury.

Belt Stays With the Sytlebender

Whitaker failed in his second bid to reclaim the UFC middleweight title against Israel Adesanya. The 31-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand won the interim belt by defeating Yoel Romero at UFC 213 and was promoted to full champion status after beating Romero in an immediate rematch at UFC 225. He lost the strap to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 and was beaten by the Last Stylebender in a rematch at UFC 271 last February.

The Reaper won the welterweight tournament at The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes in 2012. This former Superfight Australia welterweight champion is the first Australian to become UFC champion. Whitaker has an overall record of 23-6 with 9 knockouts and five submission victories.

This will be the first time in his last four bouts where Whitaker has opened as the betting favorite. Bobby Knuckles was a +220 and +265 bottom dog during his first and second bouts with Adesanya, respectively. He was also listed at +125 odds when he fought Jared Cannonier at UFC 254. He beat Cannonier on points.

Marvin Vettori Defeats Paulo Costa

Vettori bounced back from his unanimous decision loss to Adesanya at UFC 263 by welcoming Paulo Costa to the light heavyweight division. The 28-year-old from Trento, Italy defeated Costa in a dominant decision in the main event of UFC Vegas 41 last October 23, 2021.

The Italian Dream is a former Venator FC welterweight champion who also challenged for the UCMMA welterweight title. Vettori joined the UFC in 2016 ad opened his career with a modest 2-2-1 record. He then won five consecutive fights to earn a crack at Adesanya’s UFC belt. Overall, Vettori has a record of 18-5 with two knockouts and nine submission victories.

Vettori is the betting underdog for only the fourth time in the UFC and against a third opponent. Prior to this booking, the only fighters that Vettori was the underdog to were Adesanya ( twice) and Antonio Carlos Jr. in 2016. He lost all three fights via unanimous decision. In his last bout, Vettori opened as the +130 underdog against Costa but closed as the -175 betting favorite.
