Don’Tale Mayes Punishes Josh Parisian

After opening his UFC career with consecutive submission losses against Cyril Gane and Rodrigo Nascimento, Don’Tale Mayes is on a roll with back-to-back victoria inside the UFC Octagon. In his most recent bout, Mayes punished Josh Parisian in a dominant TKO win at UFC Fight Night 199.

The 30-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky began his MMA career with Hardrock MMA before joining Hoosier Fight Club where he became heavyweight champion. Mayes also appeared at LFA, VFC, and V3 Fights in between three appearances at the Contender Series. He finally earned his UFC contract after his second win in the Contender Series in 2019. Overall, Mayes has a record of 9-4 with five knockouts and one submission victory.

Mayes has seen the minus money sign written next to his name in three out of his first four UFC appearances, with his bout against Cyril Gane the only time he opened as the betting underdog at +250. Lord Kong opened at -150 and closed at -111 when he lost to Nascimento at UFC on ESPN 8 in May 2020.

Justin Tafa Demolishes Harry Hunsucker

Tafa ended a two-fight losing skid when he demolished Harry Hunsucker at UFC Vegas 45 last December 18, 2021. In that bout, Tafa became the first fighter in UFC history to miss weight in the heavyweight division when he weighed in at 267 pounds against Hunsucker or one pound above the UFC heavyweight limit. He forfeited 30% of his purse to his opponent so he took out the frustration on him.

The 28-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand is a former amateur Rugby player who played in the Auckland Rugby League. Tafa joined the Australian Xtreme Fighting Championship and became its heavyweight champion, making one successful title defense before joining the UFC in 2019. Tafa is 2-3 in the UFC and has an overall record of 5-3 with five knockouts.

This marks the third time in six UFC bouts where Tafa has opened with the plus money sign written next to his name. He hit the betting boards at +130 when he lost Yorgan de Castro in his UFC debut and was also the +145 bottom dog when the betting lines for his fight against Juan Adams. Tafa knocked out Adamas inside one round.
