Veteran heavyweight contender Derek Chisora will rematch Kubrat Pulev in a showdown of former world title challengers.
According to an announcement by Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn on Tuesday, the bout will headline a DAZN-streamed event on July 9, 2022, at the O2 Arena in London. Said Hearn:
“Expect the unexpected but expect a thriller at The O2 on July 9. Both men have been longstanding fixtures of the World Heavyweight division and it’s all or nothing at The O2 for both, as defeat could lead to the end of the road. Fans can expect a huge undercard and a brilliant main event for another brilliant event live on DAZN.”

Six years ago, Chisora and Pulev fought in an IBF title eliminator at the Barclaycard Arena in Germany with the vacant European heavyweight title also on the line. Despite Pulev seemingly winning comfortably behind his jab, the fight ended in a split decision with two judges scoring the bout for Pulev and one judge giving the nod to Chisora.
Pulev won five more bouts after that to earn a shot at Anthony Joshua’s WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO belts. Joshua knocked out Pulev inside nine rounds in December 2020. The Cobra has fought just once since losing to AJ, defeating fringe heavyweight contender Jerry Forrest via unanimous decision last May 14th at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
Meanwhile, Chisora has gone 7-6 since losing to Pulev in 2016 but against better opposition. He won the WBO intercontinental heavyweight title by defeating David Price in 2019 but was beaten by former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in his most recent two bouts. Chisora’s other losses during that span came against former European champion Agit Kabayel, former interim WBC champion Dillian Whyte (twice), and current heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Meanwhile, Chisora hit the betting boards at +245 and entered that fight at +240 to +250 odds. However, the odds are very much different this time around.
According to the best boxing betting sites, the rematch is a pick’em bout with both fighters hitting the opening betting boards at -112 odds. While Pulev has gone 6-1 since facing Chisora, he has fought much weaker competition, opening, and closing as a betting favorite of at least -1600 in five of those wins.
Meanwhile, Chisora has been listed as the betting underdog in four out of his last seven bouts with the Briton losing all four bouts with the plus money sign written next to his name. Chisora has closed at +160 or longer in each of his last three bouts.
