Kucherov’s Pass Nets Game-Winner for Palat, Lightning

Just when you thought the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning might officially disappear in the 2022 NHL playoffs.

Ondrej Palat fired a shot off of a pass from Nikita Kucherov with 42 seconds left in the third period.

Palat’s tally gave the Lightning a 3-2 win on Sunday and scissored the Rangers’ lead in the series to 2-1.

The score gave Tampa Bay a structural rebound in the best of seven series after the Rangers picked up a pair of wins at Madison Square Garden last week. After Chris Kreider gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead at the 9:44 mark of the second period, Nikita Kucherov netted the Lightning’s first goal of the game just over a minute later. He then assisted the second goal for Tampa Bay by Steven Stamkos at the 1:22 mark in the third period to tie the game at 2-2.

New York had grabbed a 2-0 lead after two periods on second-period power-play goals by Kreider and Mike Zibanejad. Kucherov and Stamkos evened the score at 2-2 off of power-play markers as well. Tampa Bay outshot New York, 49-28, on the afternoon.

Lightning Finally Win and Cover in Return to Tampa

Sunday’s 3-2 win was the third consecutive game that the Tampa Bay Lightning had been favored over the New York Rangers in the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals.

Tampa Bay opened game one at (-130) before being drawn at a (-130) in game two and then the (-190) in yesterday’s feat. The Lightning is favored for the fourth time in the series’ four games with a (-170) set for tomorrow evening in Game 4 which is also on Tampa Bay’s home ice at Amalie Arena.

Tampa Bay holds the spread at (-1.5) which places a (+150) while the Rangers’ (+1.5) nets a (-182).

Please Note:

The OVER/UNDER is once again set at 5.5 for the fourth time in the series with the Lightning at (-124) with the UNDER 5.5 and the Rangers sitting in at (+102) for OVER 5.5.

The Lightning is standing at (-176) on the money line while New York checks in at (+146).

Lightning Step Up For an Eastern Conference Challenge

The game-winner looked more like a basketball play as Kucherov was high in the middle and hit Palat on what would be considered a backdoor cut in the NBA Playoffs.

Palat then scored the game-winner when he lifted the puck over New York goalie Igor Shisterken’s left-handed glove.

The winner netted Tampa Bay’s first win over the Rangers this season as New York was 5-0-0 with three of those wins coming in the regular season with the 2-0 Eastern Conference playoffs record going into Sunday’s Game 3. Kucherov picked up the goal as well as assists on the other two scores as he has once again been stellar in NHL Playoffs action. Kucherov has 20 points to lead Tampa Bay while defenseman Victor Hedman has placed second with 13 points (two goals/ 11 assists).

Stamkos, Kucherov and Palat followed through on Sunday as all three Lightning scored and all three matched each other as they have six goals each in the NHL Playoffs.

Tampa Bay’s Brayden Point was once again sidelined with the lower-body injury that he suffered in Game 7 of the opening series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
