According to the latest BetOnline App, McDermott is the +1000 odds on favorite to be named as the NFL’s top bench tactician in 2022. The 48-year-old led Buffalo to consecutive AFC East division titles in 2020 and 2021, marking the first time that the Bills have won two consecutive division titles since 1991.
Two seasons ago, McDermott led the Bills to their first appearance in the AFC title game since 1995. Unfortunately, they would lose to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in that game. He steered Buffalo to the Divisional Round in 2021 where they faced the Chiefs for the second consecutive season. Once again, the Bills came up short but with the personnel movements during the offseason, this year could be Buffalo’s year to break through.
Kansas City lost its top pass catcher when it traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Meanwhile, after being unable to stop the Kansas City offense in consecutive seasons in the playoffs, Buffalo signed a difference-maker on defense in the person of Von Miller. Miller is coming off a Super Bowl LVI winning season with the L.A. Rams.

Next to McDermott in the BetOnline App odds board is Los Angeles Chargers HC Brandon Staley at +1400. The 39-year-old Staley almost led the Chargers to the postseason in his first year as head coach. Unfortunately, Los Angeles lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in a win-or-go-home game in Week 18 of the 2021 season. Even with the loss, the Chargers are expected to progress with quarterback Justin Herbert this year.
Also listed at +1400 is Las Vegas’ rookie head coach Josh McDaniels. The 46-year-old McDaniels was the Offensive Coordinator for the New England Patriots since 2012 and helped the team win three Super Bowl titles. With the proven Derek Carr teaming up with one of the best wide receivers in the league in Davante Adams, the Raiders could be the surprise team this season.
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is the third favorite listed at +1400. The 46-year-old Campbell is a fan favorite owing to his inspirational speeches and blue-collar mentality. The Lions have the second-longest odds to win Super Bowl LVII at +15000 but if Campbell can overachieve once again this season, he could steal the 2022 NFL coach of the Year award.
