Don’t look now but Aaron Judge has caught up with Shohei Ohtani on top of the AL MVP betting boards.

Ohtani opened as the +400 betting favorite to win a second consecutive MVP plum at the best MLB betting sites. At the end of last month, Ohtani saw his odds improve to +240 but Judge’s strong start enabled him to significantly move up the ladder board with his +350 odds. But after hitting his MLB-best 21st home run of the season, Judge is now listed at +240, the same odds as Ohtani. Mike Trout at +400 is the only other player with odds shorter than +1000 to win the 2022 AL MVP award.

On Saturday, Judge hit his first career leadoff home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning. He now has a total of 21 home runs this season to lead the majors. Dating back to the start of the previous season, Judge also has a total of 60 home runs, the most by any player in the majors during that span.

With his home run against Beau Briske, Judge now has as many home runs against right-handers this season (16) as any other player in the majors has total homers so far this season. At his current rate, Judge is on pace to hit 64 home runs this season which would be the most by any Yankees player in a single season.

Judge is coming off a month where he was named the AL Player of the Month. During that period, he led the league with 12 home runs and was 2nd with 25 RBIs. Judge’s 25 runs scored were also tied for 1st while his OPS of 1.077 and fWAR of 1.8 both ranked second overall in the American League.

With Judge having a strong season, the Yankees are also off to a fantastic start. New York is 38-15 on the season and has the best record, not just in the AL East and American League but also in all of MLB. They have won nine out of their last 11 games since their only three-game losing streak of the season, including their last five games where they’ve outscored their opponents 33-3. But while New York is 13-4 in games where Judge has homered, the Yankees’ pitching staff has also been as impressive for the Yankees.

Over the last month, New York has posted a 15-2 record. During that span, the Yankees’ starting pitchers ranked 2nd in home runs per 9 innings allowed with 0.76 and were the best in the majors with 6.03 hits conceded per nine innings. They also ranked 1st in the majors in ERA at 2.33, 1st in BB/9 at 1.52, and 3rd in K/9 at 9.27
