Barber Punishes Montana De La Rosa Over Three Round
— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) April 24, 2022
In that previous bout, Barber punished Montana De La Rosa over three rounds to take a unanimous decision win at UFC on ESPN +63. Barber dominated De La Rosa from the get-go and never let up on her pace until the final horn. All three judges scored the bout 30-27 in Baber’s favor. The win was Barber’s second straight after losing back-to-back fights against Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso.
The 23-year-old was once a highly-regarded prospect coming from the LFA promotion. Barber joined the Contender Series in 2018 and knocked out Jamie Colleen to earn a UFC contract. She won her first three UFC bouts via knockout before she suffered her first career loss against Modafferi. Barber has a record of 10-2 with five knockouts and two submission victories.
Barber has never seen the plus money sign written next to her name in her entire MMA career. Her opening odds of -155 against Eye match the price she was pegged at when the betting lines for her previous bout with De La Rosa first opened. It’s also the second-shortest opening odds for Barber with only her -130 against Alexa Grasso shorter.
Jennifer Maia Cracks Eye’s Forehead Open
— MMA Junkie (@MMAJunkie) July 11, 2021
Meanwhile, Eye will be looking to end a three-fight losing streak. The one-time UFC flyweight title challenger is coming off a brutal unanimous decision loss against Jennifer Maia in her most recent bout at UFC 264 last July 10, 2021. In that bout, Maia cracked Eye’s forehead open, leaving a huge and nasty cut that needed 13 stitches to close.
The 35-year-old Eye is the 12th-ranked flyweight in the UFC. She is a former Ring of Combat women’s bantamweight champion who also fought under Bellator and NAAFS. She won four out of five bouts from 2018 to 2019, with her only loss during that stretch coming against Valentina Shevchenko when Eye challenged for the UFC women’s flyweight belt at UFC 238.
Eye is no stranger to being the underdog. This is the 9th consecutive fight where she has opened with the plus money sign written next to her name. She was the +185 betting underdog in her latest win against Vivianne Araujo at UFC 245. Eye was also the +175 underdog in her most recent bout against Maia.
