Katlyn Chookagian Re-Signs With UFC

After fighting out her contract, Katlyn Chookagian re-signed with the UFC last month and then booked this fight against Amanda Ribas. The 33-year-old from Quakertown, Pennsylvania has won three straight bouts since losing to Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Island 6 in October 2020. In her most recent appearance at UFC Vegas 46 last January 22nd, Chookagian defeated Jennifer Maia via unanimous decision.

A former Cage Fury Fighting Championships women’s flyweight and bantamweight champion, Chookagian joined the UFC in 2016 and fought at bantamweight. After a 2-1 start, she moved down to flyweight where she posted a 4-1 mark and earned a crack at the belt. Chookagian was knocked out by Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247 when she fought for the UFC women’s flyweight title. Overall, she has a record of 17-4 with two knockouts and one submission win.

This will be the third straight bout where Chookagian has seen the minus money sign placed next to her name. She was listed at -141 when she fought Araujo and was a -240 odds on favorite in her last bout against Maia. The last time she lost as a betting favorite was when she closed at -250 against Jessica Eye at UFC 231.

Amanda Ribas Bounces Back From First UFC Loss

Amanda Ribas bounced back from her first UFC loss to defeat Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision at UFC 267 last October 30, 2021. Prior to that win, Ribas was knocked out by Marina Rodriguez at UFC 257 for her first loss inside the Octagon. The 28-year-old from Minas Gerais, Brazil won her first four UFC assignments against Emily Whitmire, Mackenzie Dern, Randa Markos, and Paige Van Zant.

Ribas began her MMA career at Pentagon Combat before moving over to Jungle Fight where she became the promotion’s strawweight champion. After losing the title to Polyana Viana, Ribas transferred to Max Fight where she became strawweight champion. Overall, Ribas has a record of 11-4 with three knockouts and four submission victories.

She will be the underdog for the first time since closing at +160 when she fought Dern at UFC Fight Night 161 in October 2019. Ribas was also the +170 bottom dog during her UFC debut against Emily Whitmire at UFC on ESPN 3 in June 2019. Ribas pulled off the upset against both Dern and Whitmire.
