Boehly owning Chelsea likely to be good news for the Academy – Talk Chelsea

It is looking increasingly likely now that Chelsea’s next owner will be the group led by Todd Boehly, and this is also just as likely to be good news for the Chelsea youth academy.

There is a lot of work to do at Chelsea when Boehly and his team arrive, on and off the pitch. With the stadium redevelopment expected to be a high priority as well as investing in the current squad and backing Thomas Tuchel, there might need to be some wise recruitment and transfer business to accompany it.

Part of that clever transfer business will be using what they already have in their ranks to fill and improve the squad. Returning loanees from the academy and existing academy players are likely to be handed more opportunities to come into the senior squad under Boehly’s reign, if they are deemed good enough.

That isn’t to say that he won’t be signing exciting new players, because he is more than likely going to do that as well. But alongside signing such players he will need to provide the squad balance by introducing some of the talented youth players as well.

I think this is a good thing. We have often seen Chelsea waste money on mediocre signings to fill the squad when academy players could do a much better job whilst also save us some money. Boehly is smart, and I think we will soon see this by how he operates right away.
