Bettors Hammering Rory McIlroy Odds at Wells Fargo Championship

Wells Fargo Championship Betting Odds

  • Rory McIlroy is the clear odds-on-favorite to win the Wells Fargo Championship.
  • At +900, McIlory is the most popular bet at Caesars and the second most popular bet at BetMGM.
  • Corey Conners is the most popular bet at BetMGM after a T6 at the Masters and a T12 at the RBC Heritage.

Rory McIlroy is the clear-cut betting favorite to win the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.

The world’s 7th best golfer at the OWGR is the only name on the betting boards with odds shorter than 20/1 to win the event. McIlroy opened at +700 at Caesars Sportsbook but is currently listed at +900, the same odds he has at BetMGM. McIlory is listed at an even shorter +840 via The short odds are owed to the fact that he’s found more success at the Wells Fargo tournament than any event in the Tour.

More Success at the Wells Fargo Than Any Event

This marks McIlroy’s first tour appearance since the Masters where he fired a final round 64 to get within three strokes of winner Scottie Scheffler and finish second, his best finish so far this year. And because this is the only 72-hole tournament that he’s won more than twice in his career, McIlroy has opened as the +900 favorite to win it a fourth time.

There’s no question why McIlroy is the betting favorite to win the event. This is the tournament where McIlroy won the first of his 20 PGA Tour victories in 2010. He followed that up with a second win at the Wells Fargo Tournament in 2015 and won the event again by one shot last year. McIlroy also lost in a playoff to Rickie Fowler in 2012 and ended up tied for second that year. Given his strong history in this event, it’s not surprising why his betting odds stand out from the field.

It’s also not a surprise why he is the most popular bet at Caesars Sportsbook with 11% of the betting tickets and 21% of the total betting handle to win the tournament. Over at BetMGM, McIlroy at +900 odds is the second most popular bet to win the tournament with just 2% fewer tickets and 1% fewer betting money than the most heavily-bet player at that said online sportsbook.

Corey Conners Garners Massive Betting Attention

The most heavily-bet player at BetMGM is Corey Conners who has 10% of the betting tickets and 14% of the total betting handle. Conners is also the second-most popular bet at Caesars Sportsbook behind McIlroy with 9% of the total betting slips issued. The Canadian is also third at Caesars in betting handle with 10% at +2000 odds, the second-shortest to win the tournament.

In his last 5 starts, Conners has produced three Top 20 finishes, including a T6 at the Masters and a T12 at the RBC Heritage in his last two outings. He’s also made five consecutive cuts and has gained strokes tee-to-green and in approach in five straight PGA Tour events.

After McIlroy and Conners at Caesars is Matt Fitzpatrick at +2200. He is followed by Tony Finau who had faded from +2200 to +2800, the same odds as Russell Henley who opened at +3300. Henley has the second-highest betting handle at Caesars with 13%. According to the said online sportsbook, Henley has attracted four bets of at least $1,000 including a $2,500 wager made when he was at +3500 and which would cash $87,500 if Henley wins.
