- Five NFL teams have better than 10/1 odds to acquire Baker Mayfield in a trade.
- The Carolina Panthers have the shortest odds to land Mayfield in a trade at -150.
- Mayfield’s status in Cleveland remains uncertain after the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson earlier this year.
The Carolina Panthers have emerged as the heavy betting favorite to land Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield’s status in Cleveland has become a huge question mark after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. The first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Browns has openly said he feels disrespected about his team’s open pursuit of Watson. Last month, Mayfield penned a ‘letter’ to the Browns’ fans which sounded like a goodbye social media post.
Baker Mayfield to the Panthers?
Think Baker Mayfield will be traded to the Panthers?

According to the online sportsbook BetOnline, the Panthers are the -150 betting favorites to acquire Baker Mayfield from the Browns. A report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer last week suggested that the Panthers have the “inside track”. The report said that the Panthers are one of the teams interested in Mayfield and have the most salary cap among those teams.
That news, however, was greeted with resistance from Carolina’s no. 2 receiver Robby Anderson who voice his displeasure by writing a long NO, as in “Nooooo” to a social media post that said that the Panthers “seem to be the most likely landing spot for Mayfield”. Anderson also replied to an Instagram post that wrote “Robby Anderson does not want Baker Mayfield to come to Carolina” by writing “facts”.
The Panthers have a QB in their lineup in the person of Sam Darnold who was picked two spots after Mayfield in the 2018 NFL Draft. But with Darnold posting just a 4-7 SU record in 11 starts in his first season with the Panthers, Carolina may be looking at adding Mayfield who is an obvious upgrade from Darnold, whether or not Robby Anderson likes it or not.

BetOnline says that there are five teams with odds better than 10/1 to acquire Mayfield. The Panthers are the only ones with minus money odds. Meanwhile, the Houston Texans have the second-best odds at +250. However, if the Texans are interested in Mayfield, it’s a wonder why they didn’t include to ask him during the Deshaun Watson trade. According to reports, the Texans like their current QB Davis Mills and want to give him the opportunity to prove that he deserves the permanent QB1 job.
The Detroit Lions are next on the odds board at +600 and it’s because of Mayfield’s connection with Lions executive John Dorsey. Dorsey was only the Browns’ GM when the team drafted Mayfield in 2018 so if there’s one exec out there who believes in Mayfield, it’s Dorsey. Plus, Detroit’s starter is the Jared Goff and with rumors that they are looking at the possibility of drafting Kenny Pickett next week, they may be on the prowl for a new starter. Mayfield could be that guy.
Philadelphia is next at +750. The Eagles are like a spouse that is waiting to cheat on Hurts and that’s the reason why the Eagles have always been included in the list of betting favorites when a big-name quarterback is in the market – like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Meanwhile, the final team with better than 10/1 odds to acquire Baker Mayfield is the Seattle Seahawks at +900. Of course, Seattle recently lost Russell Wilson but they recently signed Geno Smith to a handsome deal that doesn’t look like a salary package for a backup QB, so we’ll see what happens.
