Lions started to show their quality in the third as their star-studded roster started to turn up the heat. They scored 28 points and limited Phoenix to 17 to lead 67-57 going into the last. The home side added 18 in the last to win 85-69 and take a 16-point lead into the second leg.

Julian Washburn starred for Lions with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a dominant display. Teddy Okereafor finished with a game-high 23 points for Phoenix.

Eighth seed Patriots got off to a quick start against Leicester Riders in their first leg tie. They raced into a 17-12 lead after an explosive opening quarter. Riders, however, scored 27 points in a superb second quarter to take a three-point, 39-36 lead into the half-time break.

They continued to show why they have only lost two BBL Championship games all season in the third as they added a further 25 to their total. Riders won the final quarter 22-17 to win the first leg 86-71.

Patrick Whelan led all scorers for Riders with 19 points.
